Moving again, without relying on others
For people with limited mobility, the transition from a rehabilitation centre back to everyday life at home can be significant. Outside a rehabilitation setting, the support needed to stand up safely and move independently is often no longer readily available.
The mobility aid for which RG Castings Group produces the castings offers a practical solution: active support when standing up and moving around, even outside rehabilitation sessions, while keeping the user’s hands free for everyday activities. It provides an alternative for wheelchair users who are still able to walk with the right level of support.
Aluminium as a structural choice
A mobility aid designed for daily use places high demands on every component. Parts need to be lightweight to keep the device compact and manoeuvrable, provide the flexibility required for comfortable use, and meet stringent safety standards. Aluminium castings offer exactly this combination of properties.
RG Castings Group produces several structural cast components for different versions of the mobility aid. Depending on the design and specific requirements of each component, either sand casting or gravity die casting is used. Sand casting enables complex geometries to be produced accurately, while gravity die casting is particularly suitable for higher production volumes and offers excellent dimensional consistency.
After casting, the components undergo heat treatment to achieve the required mechanical properties, followed by CNC machining to ensure the necessary dimensional accuracy.
From concept to component: developing together with the customer
Our involvement went far beyond production alone. From the very beginning, RG Castings Group contributed its expertise to assess the manufacturability of the components and determine how aluminium castings could provide the right solution.
As the project progressed, we also advised on the most appropriate casting process for each component and helped optimise the designs towards a reliable end product. This role as a technical development partner - getting involved early and advising on both materials and manufacturing processes - is where RG Castings Group makes a real difference in innovative applications like this one.
